Thanks to Mwezinet, I found this historical email regarding the first comorian internet configuration. Here first email.Comores uucp connectivity test
Countries: Comoros
Author: Submitted by <djinn%karthala.uucp>
Last Updated: 19-Jan-1998
From: djinn%karthala.uucp (Iain Walker)
To: route!randy

Date: Mon, 19 Jan 1998 22:33:29 UTC
In the Comores now, so hoping this gets through. Got the mail for root, thanks Randy, and I plugged in the modem this time.
But I’ll need some advice on my own address – route!karthala!djinn or route!djinn%karthala.uucp? or neither? And from the rest of the world – an Internet address?
Also, mail for the outside world? Did you get the cc to randy@nsrc.org, Randy? My documentation seems to imply that straight Internet addresses will go right through. Is anyone getting any of this? (I’ll call back in a day or two for a reply)
Iain.

This is a guest post by Dave McClure, a startup advisor and internet marketing nerd who runs a seed-stage investment program for Founders Fund

So you consider yourself an internet entrepreneur, investor or expert, huh? Chances are you know a lot about what it’s like to be a Western technologist with Western customers, but you know very little about how the other half of the world (also known as Asia) lives and works.

Among the greatest benefits for implementing Internet broadband, we can note the generalization of the information. Elites will share the power of information to citizens. By this way citizens will get multiple choices from couple of media sources. Information can be manipulated by Elites or corporations. In order to tackle the control, charitys organizations and private companies should work hand by hand with the government to create diversity of media sources. I am aware that will not easy to unite positive forces.

Time for paternalistic charity policy is over. Most of charity actions are  inefficient because of unilateral way to realise local actions: local citizens were not enough involved in their own local development. Assisantship is always there and that shows a great failure.  Charity organizations and business companies should involve and adjust their social actions in massive educational programs directed to IT development as encouraging students to embrace IT studies, encouraging intensive IT courses in high schools and encouraging public policies which stimulate people to use Internet. Local ecommerce market will not be mature without premature apprenticeship. Instead of supplying rice, milk, charity organizations will distribute computer science courses to local charities organizations, citizens and communities. This will help them to be autonomous. They will built their own social programs.

Most of developing countries are deeply affected by world challenges such as climate change, air pollution. The only way to involve and sensibilize them for the global issues is to give them the chance to participate to the world different packages promoted by onusian or philanthropic organizations. Generalizing Internet usage must not restrict to make only business but to promote world conscientious citizenship.

When technology can deeply change hotel booking offer! May 9, 2009

We have never given the chance to developping countries to use Technology as a way to enter in the developping world. When we observe the adoption of the mobile phone, we understand that they are early adopters. Nowadays there is no way to apply directly to aggressive offers from hotel booking sector. We have to subscribe to tour operators as you may know, more we have middelmen more price can be higher.

With Optic fiber and Internet broadband, private shopping club, yield management techniques can be used by hotels in order to tackle low season and give stimulus to the local offers. That will be almost the “end of the tour operators monopoly”.

This scenario can be real if:

- Hoteliers will create databases and set up non booking offers to be sold and reachable by websites /tourists

- a global database can host all offers from hotels and show as “hot offers” .

Dynamism and competition will be possible thanks to the technology. Local guest houses would advertise their own offers by using sponsored links or other performance marketing offers. Internet broadband will give the opportunity to boost local economy by encouraging added values services.

Transfer to the population
ouverture dans le monde
Business will connect to the global information (tourism)
Universities

The first revolution will be the shared information. Originally people are from non writting civilization. The positive impact will be the transfer  of Information from Elites to the labour class. We can already predict messenger addiction as msn messenger and all social network websites such as twitter, facebook and teenager weblogs. Instead of poverty, Internet users numbers will be similar to the mobiles users.

East african coast and Indian Ocean will be opened up to the rest of the world. Massive Tourism has opened the region to the rest of the planet unilaterally. From now reciprocal exchange will give the chance to the people to show theirs roots from their own vision. That is the end of standardization of the way which we can have a look East africa.

Economic integration will take care of whole Business.  People have suffered by the global cliché given by Tourism. Local economy such as craft industry and technical know how will get an excellent opportunity to show their valuation. Thanks to Voip, Internet High band, a lot of  tasks would be subcontracted.

Local Universities will run research and development for companies located in Europe, Asian, America.  E-learning programs will make sense and reduce the economic border between Western and east african students.

Internal local usage will observe global mutation by increasing volume exchanges. Internet will bring up transparency in political sector because people will get direct access to information in real time. Local heritage will receive value in a different way by including the local genius of east african peaple.
